LABRANCHE MARSH CREATION DREDGE PILOT PROJECT
ST. JOHN PARISH, LA
USDA-NRCS hired APC as the prime contractor to perform the LaBranche Marsh Creation Dredging Pilot Project.
APC was tasked with creating 11 acres of marsh via beneficial, hydraulic dredging and construction of 2,000+ LF of containment dikes. In addition, our team installed the first ever ‘Net Gains’ sediment containment system to receive dredge materials. Finally, we fabricated and installed sediment plates and staff gauges for year round monitoring.
The purpose of this flood protection pilot project was to construct an innovative approach to marsh creation via sediment containment systems in Southeast Louisiana. This project is being featured by USDA-NRCS as an alternative to traditional civil works projects associated with providing flood and storm risk reduction.
This pilot project was considered a success by USDA, resulting in the nomination and recognition of APC as the 2015 U.S. Department of Agriculture HUBZone Contractor of the Year.
