APC has the capability to perform supplemental subsurface investigations using Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) methods with our own 20-ton capable unit. CPT is a widely used method to evaluate subsurface conditions, particularly for deep foundation design. CPT involves hydraulically pushing an instrumented probe (cone) into the soil at a constant rate. As the cone is advanced, strain gages embedded in the cone body continuously measure the tip resistance and side friction. Additionally, a piezometer element behind the cone tip measures the pore water pressure in the soil.
The collected CPT data is used to optimize existing deep foundation designs as well as to evaluate possible VE (Value Engineering) foundation alternatives such as helical piles or our patented TYGER pile system.
